IPL Points Table Rules

As mentioned earlier, the main goal of each team is to eventually get one of the top four in the IPL points table. Entering the top two is a secondary goal because these teams have more opportunities to enter the finals.

The ranking depends on the points of each team. If multiple teams have the same points, the “net operating rate” (NRR) will be considered. The rules for earning points are as follows:

  1. A team gets 2 points for a win.
  2. A team gets 1 point in case the game is abandoned or ends abruptly as No Result.
  3. A team gets 0 points in case of a loss.

The NRR of the team is very important, because as the game progresses, the IPL standings become too close, and there are often a few teams tied for points table.

The NRR of the team is calculated from “the number of running times the team scored in the same game to the number of times it has faced” to “the number of running times allowed by the team to the number of times it has hit the ball”.
