PSL 2021 – Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators

Quetta Gladiators to play every match like final: Sarfraz Ahmed

Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators - PSL-2021

In the Karachi leg of Pakistan Super League (PSL VI), having lost four of the five matches, Quetta’s Gladiators captain Sarfraz Ahmad admitted his team faces a must-win situation now.

Sarfraz said in a virtual media talk from Abu Dhabi on Thursday, a day before their match with Islamabad United on Friday, they would treat every match as if it were the final. “We are already behind on the table and can’t afford any more losses.

If we are to reach the knockout stage, we have to win every match from now on, so there is everything to play for in Abu Dhabi. “To stay in the competition, we must put forth our best in every aspect of the game,” he said.

According to him, instead of big hitting and big scores, the team needs 160 to 170 in total to pose a real challenge to the team chasing the target. “That should be the approach – you are right – this is not the pitch to go for big scores and make power hits.

A target of 160 seems impossible for the opposing team to achieve. Despite the fact that Quetta has more explosive power hitters than others, we will play according to the situation and leave the power hitters a few overs to go on an all-out attack”, he added.

Azam Khan was congratulated on his selection to the national team, saying the PSL gave him a perfect opportunity to demonstrate his skills and prepare for the big day.

“I faced travel problems, and because of that I spent more time in quarantine and less in training and practice,” Sarfraz said. “My focus will be taking the team along and making sure we capitalize on the opportunities coming our way.”

Viv Richards had been a real inspiration for the Gladiators, said the captain. “His presence with the team always lifted our spirits. Due to Covid-19 ups and downs, he was unable to join us for Leg 2,” he said.

The captain of the Gladiators said that every player is aware of his specific role. “Every player knows well what the requirements are and what his role is in staging a comeback,” he said. Our team is capable of delivering and making the best use of its capabilities. Our batsmen are supposed to stay at the wicket longer so that there are enough wickets by the time the 20 overs are up.

And our bowlers should make sure we restrict our opponents as well. Zahir Khan, Zahid Mehmood, and Mohammad Nawaz are some of the best spinners in the country. They can run through an opponent’s batting line on a track conducive to spin,” said the wicketkeeper-batsman.
