The opening ceremony of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 was held on Thursday at Karachi National Stadium.
Ahmed Godil’s speech style is almost like a parody of Prime Minister Imran Khan. It is unclear whether this was intentional or his natural style.
The crowd stood up for the national anthem, followed by an augmented reality commentary on the PSL journey by Shahzad Nawaz.
The musical part of the opening ceremony began with a carefully crafted orchestra, including trumpeter and dhol performers, and introduced the official PSL 2020 national anthem Tayyar Hain.
After Darren Sammy appeared on the screen, asking fans to “loud”, host of ceremonies Fakhar-e-Alam invited Chief Minister Sind Said Murad Ali Shah (Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah).
Following a speech by Muhammad Aurangzeb, President and CEO of Habib Bank Limited, PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani recounted the board’s move from hosting the entire PSL in the UAE to planning Real journey to Pakistan.
“Pakistan is opening its doors to the rest of the world, and PSL is achieving that,” Manny said.
The first performance was a Sufi work with singer Sanam Marvi and the famous qawwali duo Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad.
Later Soch songs happened, and singer Sajjad Ali performed some classic music, such as Babia and Sohni Lagdi to sing to the crowd.
Sultan Multan Sultans veteran Shahid Afridi appeared on the screen to stimulate the crowd, and then Aima Baig performed some popular dancers, Dancers swarmed.
Later, the franchisees and their captains, as well as the children of the deaf school, were asked to stage an oath on the stage about fair play.
The next performance was an Abrar-ul-Haq performance, and then the legendary Rahat Fateh Ali Khan intoxicated the crowd with his voice.
The final scene of the awards ceremony was a stage taken over by Ali Azmat, Haroon Rashid, Asim Azhar and Arif Lohar, who sang Tayyar Hain, the official national anthem of PSL.
As promised, the sparkling ceremony ended with a dazzling display of fireworks.
